New Video: Reproductive Possibilities for Trans Families

Exciting options for creating biological families for trans parents have emerged in the last ten years.

As described by reproductive endocrinologist, Marjorie Dixon, MD, these include the ability for trans men to restart ovulation with the suppression of androgens and reintroduction of estrogens. From there, trans men can carry a typical pregnancy and even chest feed.

Another option is for a cisgender woman to carry an embryo created with the egg of a trans man and donor sperm.

However, there are considerations to be made in terms of hormonal changes. And for trans women the options are limited given that it’s difficult to start the reproduction of sperm after longterm exposure to estrogens.

Hence, advance family planning for all trans people is encouraged.
